Mike O’Donnell

Piper

Mike started piping with the Chicago Stock Yard Kilty Band in 1987. Five years later he joined the Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band in Grade 2 under Pipe Major Ian Swinton. Highlights of his career at that time include winning several Midwest Championships and placing 6th in the 1996 World Pipe Band Championships and retaining top-ten placements in 1998 and 1999. In his personal playing career, he enjoyed appearing as a guest with Poi Dog Pondering and successfully competing in solos as high as Grade 1. Mike took time away from piping to raise his two sons, returned briefly with the Chicago Scots Pipe Band, and is now back among long-time friends with the City of Chicago Pipe Band and is looking forward to the seasons ahead.
