Derek Doyle

Snare Drummer

Derek Doyle is a classically trained percussionist that started playing in school bands and community orchestras.  He studied drum set and snare drum technique with jazz and Motown great Billy Arnold. He was selected as one of two musicians from each state to represent Illinois in the McDonald’s All-American High School Band in 1998. While attending the University of Notre Dame, Derek played in the marching, jazz, and concert bands. He has served as the percussion instructor for Glenbard West Marching Band for that last 20 years winning awards in local competitions as a band and drumline. He was introduced to pipe bands in 2001 with Chicago Caledonian, playing in their flagship band in grades 3 and 2, and later served as leading drummer of the grade 4 band. Derek joined the City of Chicago Pipe Band in 2017 and is the deputy leading drummer. When he is not playing or teaching drums, Derek enjoys being a dad, traveling and college football.
